Classes, team building workshops, and events

I regularly teach line drawing and watercolor classes, and have taught watercolor on cruise ships as part of Odyssey Art at Sea. I also host a monthly art space for social justice advocates in New York City.

I've led team building art workshops for The Bronx Defenders, Co-Counsel NYC, Envision Freedom Fund, The Legal Aid Society, and New York County Defender Services as well as have facilitated art at fundraisers and for company events.

The ethos of my teaching and facilitation is to hold a space for attendees to feel comfortable to try new techniques, experiment, and unplug. All of my events are designed to be accessible for participants of all levels, regardless of having any art experience.

Testimonials

“

Your workshop has actually had a really wonderful and surprising impact on my creativity. I signed up expecting to learn some new line drawing techniques ... but I left with more than that. I loved that you focused the session so much on developing a drawing practice, including your own process in “becoming” an artist...something about the way you talked about relaxing into a drawing practice really clicked for me, and I’ve felt more comfortable drawing as a way to play, to unwind, to pass the time on the subway, or to shift gears before or after work.

“

What I learned in your workshop about myself is that I really love to draw and your gentle and kind instruction, and support was very motivating for me to continue to be more creative in drawing and other creative projects.

I have had the pleasure of working with Genia to bring her line drawing and water color classes to the Brooklyn Women’s Exchange. She is warm, flexible, and incredibly easy to collaborate with, making every workshop a wonderful experience. With her art, she is able to create a welcoming atmosphere where people naturally connect, encourage one another, and leave feeling inspired ... Genia has a special gift for making art feel accessible, joyful, and deeply rewarding.

Genia's workshop was wonderfully accessible to colleagues of all skill levels. The workshop was engaging and felt casual, although Genia's background in social justice and immigration law undoubtedly helps her connect with groups such as ours. Genia's workshop is also a reflection of her own artwork—approachable, enjoyable, and rooted in a sense of place.
